Memory suppression is quite easy, especially if the event which eventually became a memory was painful or otherwise beyond normal tolerance levels.

I think it's quite possible to forget large chunks of memory. You might end up with ghosts and a series of frustrations in life, but the initial events-memories are suppressed.
