Mosaic Monday: Susan B. Anthony

Today is the 190th birthday
of Susan Brownell Anthony,
the 19th and early 20th Century women's rights activist
who worked tirelessly to secure the vote for women.
In 1872, she was tried for having attempted to vote.
She died in 1906, fourteen years before the 19th Amendment
was ratified.

So here's to you, Susan.
Happy Birthday!

To see the mosaics of other participants,
visit Mary at the Little Red House.
Thanks for being a great hostess, Mary!

What an important piece of history to commemorate! RYC: I was bundled up. Need to get me those gloves or mittens that you can uncover your fingers to make picture taking easier. My shutter hand does get cold lol.
Marvelous (and timely) mosaic ... thanks for the reminder of this historic birthday. It's my best friend's birthday too ;-)

Thanks for your visit to and comment at Small Reflections.
Hugs and blessings,

Great mosaic and wonderful contribution...Christine
great mosaic - not to be a nitpicker but it's actually the 190th birthday of the great susan b!

I know time is flying but, please don't let it be 2020 yet!!

maybe we should launch a campaign to see if we can get the equal rights amendment passed in time for the celebration of susan b's 200th...there was a time in the mid 1970s when I actually thought we were going to get it passed!

well, what can I say, I guess it's not surprising that a country that doesn't guarantee health care for all of its people would also have difficulty passing an amendment which provides equal rights and protection to all regardless of gender.... (oh, a bit of cynicism????)

have a great day and a great week!

She and the other suffragettes (is that the right word?)
were amazing women and we owe them so much.

Meri,
Thanks for asking. My old college buddy and a couple of her friends started an organization that builds schools for orphaned children in Tanzania, and helps widows learn job skills. It's called "Orphans Africa" and it's based out there in the Seattle area. At the end of this month they are having an auction at the Liberty theater in Puyallup WA, to raise money to build another classroom. My friend asked me to make a small quilt to put in the silent auction, so I did. They are having both a silent and live auction, Saturday, Feb 27th.

The Orphans Africa website is
http://orphansafrica.org/

For info about the dinner and auction and the items being auctioned off, see this
http://oabenefit.wordpress.com/

There are lots of cool trips and events being auctioned... including a photo safari in South Africa. You should take a look.
