Happy Birthday, Meri. I hope you have lots of happiness on your special day. I adore September. It's a great month for birthdays, including mine and my husband's. :)
I love your photograph Meri. Your elephant's wrinkles are sweet and he looks entirely huggable. Happy Birthday dear. Here is a poem from Mary Oliver whose birthday is just 3 days up the road from yours on Sept. 10. I think it is a good one for your birthday because you give us so many beautiful images full of light:
THE PONDS
Every year the lilies are so perfect I can hardly believe
their lapped light crowding the black, mid-summer ponds. Nobody could count all of them -
the muskrats swimming among the pads and the grasses can reach out their muscular arms and touch
only so many, they are that rife and wild. But what in this world is perfect?
I bend closer and see how this one is clearly lopsided - and that one wears an orange blight - and this one is a glossy cheek
half nibbled away - and that one is a slumped purse full of its own unstoppable decay.
Still, what I want in my life is to be willing to be dazzled - to cast aside the weight of facts
and maybe even to float a little above this difficult world. I want to believe I am looking
into the white fire of a great mystery. I want to believe that the imperfections are nothing - that the light is everything - that it is more than the sum of each flawed blossom rising and fading. And I do. from House of Light, Beacon Press, 1990
You make me laugh. Here I am all bothered by my coming age and you are just laughing and making us laugh. I love that about you. I just love you, my friend. Happy, happy birthday to you. May you have a lovely, lovely year.
Wrinkles? did you say "wrinkles"? oh love, wrinkles are beautiful, particularly those who come from smiles.
Happy B-day, today is the first day I can more or less type with my left hand. I am thinking of you and hoping you day was wonderful and filled with laughter and promises for a wonderful, fulfilling and healthy year. Much love and many happy returns of the day.
oh meri.... see what happens when life takes us away from our blogging family?? one week in the throws of an unexpected visit from a dear friend and you have celebrated a birthday!!!! wishing you an abundance of pure happiness, radiant JoY! love.love and more love.
Haiku My Heart i invite you to imagine living in peace one day at a time I have to admit that I'm finding it hard to celebrate the birthday of my country having declared its independence from Mother England, when the country was founded on institutionalized slavery, the idea that white men were created equal but but black men were less than and women weren't even considered. We tend to glorify the "all men are created equal" phrase without looking at the reality. We can do better. We must.
Dia de los Muertos brings back such enticing memories. . . The stalls in the markets filled with little muertos figures each with their own personality. Marigolds -- by the armfuls and bucketsful. . . Colorful flags Candlelit altars the sounds of guitars spooky senoritas and lots of scary boys and ghouls. PS - some of those "expensive" creams are only that - expensive and do nothing for your skin! xoxo
Love the photo of the elephant.
Thanks for stopping by my page - I often visit yours but apologize for not always, unfortunately, having time to leave a comment.
Have a good week,
Nora & Lola:)
PS So sorry to read about your bereavement.
