A Month of Lists: Things I Admire About Donald J. Trump

Things I Admire About Donald J. Trump

A Month of LIsts: June 6

Favorite Things Handmade caramels. Golden raspberries (if the deer don't get them first). Gazing balls. Being behind the camera. Starry, starry nights. Crisp fall days when the leaves are still hanging on. Seeing people in love and hoping that it's not too late for me. Watching my son with his kids. Reflections. Clotheslines. Historic places. Being just a little bit naughty.

Ways I Treat Myself Occasional handmade chocolates  Browsing antique stores (my favorite collection is my stash  of lace-edged white handkerchiefs) Walking along the edge of the ocean -- that liminal space where you get giddy from all the ions in the air -- and listening to the crash of the waves. Creating and eating beautiful, healthy food. Buying and arranging fresh flowers. I especially love lilacs, sweet peas, sunflowers, and peonies. Shopping at my favorite garden nurseries. Making sure my space is aesthetically pleasing. Taking time to delight in the world around me.

Things that intrigue me Doors. So symbolic! The artistic process History (and herstory). Why people built houses and farmed on breath-takingly steep slopes. Wondering who lived here and why they left. What cats think when they're just sitting there, chillin' The wisdom of the ancients.

Things you might not know about me. I'm always thinking, scanning my body, listening to my emotions in order to figure out if I'm centered and taking right action. The breakup of my marriage was the most traumatic, painful experience of my life I use my lawyer skills virtually every day, but I don't practice any longer.  I've been known to iron sheets, pillowcases, and tea towels when I'm bored. Every morning, I fix myself a cup of chai and pick a mug with a message that I want to guide my day. I rarely drink, but when I do, make mine a Margarita. I love the order and abundance in grocery stores. I'm pretty adept at family history research (those lawyer skills come in handy, as does the experience I got deciphering weird handwriting when I taught fourth grade).

My favorite quotes.

Things that Are Blue. The swirly designs on these mugs. This boat, waiting to go on a jaunt in one of the canals of Venice. * Shadows on snow. Gail's T-shirt. A California jay coming to visit. My favorite colander.
