Mosaic Monday: Roots & Wings

There is an old saying about family
giving you both roots and wings.

Here are photos of some of the roots and branches
in my family tree, some distant, some near.
I've written stories about most of these people
in my Sepia Saturday posts.

We all have to earn our own wings.

What a great mosaic. How wonderful to have so many old pictures like these. I love the way you put them together. How funny that way back then you had to get it right the first time. Now...I can take 200 pictures of something and still find fault with every single one ;-)

Hi Meri

this is a beautiful family mosaic and I can only imagine the way it tugs your heart and genes...with feelings that we cannot understand...

I have never heard the saying,

roots I understand

wings...how?

Happy days

You know the stories, Meri but a fiction writer could make many more up. Did you hear the story of how Carol Shields wrote the story of 'The Stone Diaries', a fictional account of one Daisy Barker and based to some extent from photos taken over the years of Shield's own family.

The photos feature in the book in the middle and are made to fit the fictional characters. It's amazing. A beautiful book, but I think I prefer to know that the pictures fit real people as in your sepia stories.

Thanks Meri.
Love this piece Meri. Quite something to contemplate the stories that go with each life. I've enjoyed reading many of them in your Saturday posts.

Awesome job on the mosaic! We have just begun gathering all our family lineage and it is a bit overwhelming. So I am equally impressed with how many photos you have and that you know the stories so well. Hoping I too find my wings :)

Happy Easter! You should make this into a photo stationery book. You could write about your family tree in the book. How fun! Joan

I have followed your stories and it is so wonderful to imagine what their lives were like in those days. Somehow it is easy to imagine that there were slow days, peaceful, serene until one finds a letter or two speaking of hardships and missing families left behind and so forth.

You must, absolute must call when you are going to Cannon Beach. I lived at the Coast when I had the restaurant and my house was in Manzanita. When I first came to Oregon I lived in Gearhart and I have never lost my love for the Oregon Coast. A blogger friend is coming to Oregon next month, how about coming down for the day? I'll email you with the details later.
Hugs from here.

Wonderful Mosaic. I love ancestral photos. I so enjoy looking at the pictures of my ancestors and thinking about the lives they led and how my life connects to each of them through the customs that I still follow and my personality, looks, etc. Thanks for sharing with us. Have a great rest of the week.
