Creative Impulses

You cannot govern
 the creative impulse;

"Wallflower # 8" © Meri Arnett-Kremian 2010

all you can do
is to eliminate obstacles
and smooth the way for it.
-Kimon Nicoliades

Are you making room for creative expression
or are you letting obstacles
stand in your way?

If you tell yourself
there's not enough time,
commit to perform one random act
of creativity each day.

A poem.
A quick sketch.
An arrangement of flowers in a vase.
Cook with flair.

If you already keep a gratitude journal,
here's a thought:
take one photo per day of something
you're grateful for.
Add it to your journal.
If you keep the journal on your computer,
it's easy to integrate photos with text.

You know, I really am. I have been so proud of myself. I am usually more of a dreamer than a doer. But this year I have put wings to my dreams. One fourth of the year has passed and I have not missed a single day of taking and posting a picture or of writing in my morning pages. More, I have my big girl camera on order at the local camera store and am waiting very impatiently for it to arrive. YES!

I suppose this is another way of saying, you can't force a book, 'make room to let it happen' or alternatively, 'fortune favours the prepared mind'.

I love this thought, just one random act per day! We can all do that! I think I will print and keep this by my journal--I still do an old book handwritten note to myself in the journal from time to time. Tho' I blog I find the handwritten journal is different for me; all feelings.

I've never come across the term 'gratitude journal' before and love it. I do have a journal that comes in two guises: one on the computer, one a beautiful leather bound notebook, and they are mostly full of snippets, cuttings, and picture of things that have caught my fancy, but I've not thought of it explicitly as an expression of gratitude.

One thing I am grateful for every day is having access to the ideas of other artists via my computer.
