Something About Old Things

Image
Something about old things grabs my attention. They seem to hold a story that shiny, new things lack. With an old house, for example, I wonder who built it and whether  their life there was happy and -- if it's abandoned -- why it's sitting there unloved. You might remember that I like to photograph old things rusty things discarded things. Maybe that fascination develops as we age.

Jury-Selected

Image
I'm a bit surprised by an email I got yesterday. This photo was jury-selected for a show put together by photographer Peter Serko  that runs  August 7 - Jan 8, 2012 at the Museum of Glass. I've been invited to the opening on August 13, along with others whose works  will be featured. Been to lots of openings, but never as someone with work in the show. A new experience. . .

Share the Joy Thursday: The Best Things

Image
If you make your own personal list called "The Best Things in the World" you'll find JOY. Here are some of the things on my list Girlfriend Time. Live Theater (sorry I couldn't enlarge these -- camera pics aren't amenable to large format displays) pretty reflections in the water memories of gliding along the Nile and just soaking in the feeling of timelessness taking photographs.  What says JOY to you this week? To play along and share the joy: 1. do a post that tells and shows us  what gives you joy. 2. capture the URL of the specific post  and paste it into the  Mr. Linky box along with your name. 3. Then click the NEXT box If the "next" box doesn't pop up, click the link to go to the page to select your image -- choose one from your post so you'll entice people to visit. 4. visit other players -- as many as possible --  and let their joy infect you.   5. Leave them a comment about their post because ...

The Creative Act

Image
The creative act lasts but a brief moment, a lightning instant of give-and-take, just long enough for you to level the camera and to trap the fleeting prey in your little box.  ~Henri Cartier Bresson

I Am the Walrus

Image
Before you decide I've gone 'round the bend, let me explain. I was feeling camera-lust. I wanted to capture details. And you know how I love blue. And as for the You-Tube video, well it speaks for itself. I don't endorse the suggestion at the end, though I have discovered a strange Showtime series on On Demand called "Weeds." Goo goo guh joob. Photography as Self-Expression

Image
Photography is a form of expression  that reveals not only who were are,  but how the world appears through our eyes.  There is some risk to this, but more importantly,  there is that possibility that  our revelation will touch another,  heal some brokenness,  lead us back to our wholeness.   – Jan Phillips, God is at Eye Level "Gray Sky behind Santa Maria Maggiore" © 2010 Meri Arnett-Kremian.

Photos, Zen, and Blessings

Image
One should really use the camera as though tomorrow you'd be stricken blind. -Dorothea Lange "Photo Meditation" copyright 2009 Meri Arnett-Kremian sometimes the things that bring you lightness of spirit are things you never expected to see in a million years and yet there they are just waiting for you to stumble upon them just waiting to make you laugh out loud just waiting to make you dance for joy and (if you have your camera at the ready) just waiting for you to freeze-frame the moment so you can recapture the ecstasy whenever you want we find the blessings we seek without even knowing we're looking we give the blessings we are just by being truly ourselves ************ How were you blessed today in ways you didn't expect? How did you extend your blessing to others?

Soul Glimpse

Image
My photographs are a direct line to my inner world. They are the shortest distance between my soul and yours. - Jan Phillips ( God is at Eye Level ) "The Colors of My Soul" copyright 2009 Meri Arnett-Kremian Can you follow the path? p.s. You can see Fledgling Poet's soul today too. It's in her words.
