Share the Joy

Joy is

having my kids work their tails off
to make sure my house was ready to show.
(Thanks, y'all!)

Knowing that Deb's online class
and a month of fun
is about to begin.

Vases full of sunflowers.

A treat of a soft, squishy caramel
from a little store in the historic center of Gig Harbor

and sitting down for a read of the book about Edward Curtis
by Timothy Eagan even though there's a million things
that need doing.

Share the Joy

This week's joys are simple:

1. sleeping until 7:30 this morning,
after a week of waking up at 5:30 or so
and getting right to work on the task
of getting my house show-ready

2. getting used to my Kindle
and taking a little time to read

3. anticipating Girls' Night tomorrow
to see Sister Act onstage in Seattle.

When this selling-my-house-and-moving
stuff is over,
I want to do a lot of this

except I know I'll have to unpack and
find a place for everything.

Still. . . . I can dream.

Share the Joy: A Little of This

My joy moments this week include
chubby cheeks and blue eyes

appreciating moments of rapt concentration

and making progress toward
getting the house on the market.
The main floor is staged.
The upstairs is close.

I've got to move the art stuff and holiday decor
from the basement storage area to the new house.

But I can now envision the results
of massive effort.

Then there will be the new house
to put together.
But I won't think about that.

Share the Joy: More Art (Bo Choi)

Perhaps I'm easy to please,
but I found some joy in discovery.
Discovery of a new-to-me artist
(and apparently a fashion designer, too)
who created work for the city of Seattle
to beautify a construction area.

Bo Choi's work has a sense of urban decay
and the inclusion of unexpected beauty.

There's a hint of celebration
that I can't quite put my finger on.

There's a liveliness
and sense of movement --
a twirling
a letting go
an assertion of feminine power
through personal expression.

And the pops of in-your-face pink
are just divine.

Make you grin?

Mish Mash

mish mash icon

mish-mash ; a motley assortment of things hodgepodge, potpourri, patchwork, smorgasbord, salmagundi, miscellany.

Come join me for 30 days of playful, soulful inspiration from my home studio, kitchen and camera. I'll share my favorite art projects, recipes and photography tips. You'll receive a daily newsletter which includes prompts, tutorials, recipes, random videos and heavy doses of Deb Did It! Each week of Mish Mash features a different theme from playful photography, cooking, creating and finally a reflective week of “Be. Here. Now.” This will be a fun, quirky, casual, homegrown play-at-your-own-pace workshop. You can connect with me and other Mish Mash friends in a private FaceBook Group and Flickr Group. That's where we will gather to share our creations and ideas, develop community, grow friendships and offer each other support. I believe you will manifest magic and feed your soul by connecting with others who share the same passion and desire to nurture the creative spirit within.
Cost $49.  We begin September 1, 2013. Registration ends midnight August 30.

Q & A

“I'm a great cook, accomplished artist and already busy with access to Pinterest, Blogs and You Tube, why would I want to join your workshop?” Because it will be fun, playful and inspiring to be a part of a small tribe. Connecting and resonating with others always feeds my own creativity, so this is what I am offering. You can save your newsletters and links forever, and refer to them whenever you wish. Our Facebook and Flickr community will remain open forever, and just maybe we can meet up in real time someday!! “Where did you come up with that name 'Mish Mash'?” In the early 80’s, while working at a Texas Steak n Ale Restaurant, there was a lunch item on the menu titled Mish Mash. It was a chopped sirloin patty, served open face with gravy of stewed tomatoes, pepper and onion, sprinkled with cheddar cheese. I have always loved that quirky name and used it randomly to describe things that “crash into each other” "What can I expect to receive from your workshop?” You will receive daily Happy Mail to your inbox, full of inspiring ideas to SHAKE, RATTLE AND ROLL the Creative Muse within! Also, your real time mailbox will receive a Happy Snail Mail from me, if you choose to share your address! BONUS: discount in my Etsy shop for the holidays! “Can I gift this workshop to someone else?” Of course, just include their email address when you sign up

Share the Joy: Seattle Landmark

Browsing the Pike Place Market,
one of Seattle's famous landmarks,
is always a treat.

From fish
to flowers

it's a riot of color,
of shapes and textures,

sights and sounds.

There's something for almost everyone's taste buds.

And, if you know where to look,
there's a bubble gum wall.
(A bit ick........)
