Birthdays

Today's my birthday
so I took a long look in the mirror
to see if I looked any different.

I think I see some wrinkles
that weren't there before.

Uh oh.
Time for that expensive cream.

Happiest of birthdays, Meri!! Enjoy the day!!

PS - some of those "expensive" creams are only that - expensive and do nothing for your skin! xoxo
Have a happy birthday Meri and a wonderful year! I think wrinkles are so endearing on an elephant. Why are they not, on me?

Happy Birthday, Meri. I hope you have lots of happiness on your special day. I adore September. It's a great month for birthdays, including mine and my husband's. :)

Love the photo of the elephant.

Many happy returns and hope you enjoy your upcoming trip to Mexico too.

Thanks for stopping by my page - I often visit yours but apologize for not always, unfortunately, having time to leave a comment.

Have a good week,

Nora & Lola:)

PS So sorry to read about your bereavement.
I love your photograph Meri. Your elephant's wrinkles are sweet and he looks entirely huggable. Happy Birthday dear. Here is a poem from Mary Oliver whose birthday is just 3 days up the road from yours on Sept. 10. I think it is a good one for your birthday because you give us so many beautiful images full of light:

THE PONDS

Every year
the lilies
are so perfect
I can hardly believe

their lapped light crowding
the black,
mid-summer ponds.
Nobody could count all of them -

the muskrats swimming
among the pads and the grasses
can reach out
their muscular arms and touch

only so many, they are that
rife and wild.
But what in this world
is perfect?

I bend closer and see
how this one is clearly lopsided -
and that one wears an orange blight -
and this one is a glossy cheek

half nibbled away -
and that one is a slumped purse
full of its own
unstoppable decay.

Still, what I want in my life
is to be willing
to be dazzled -
to cast aside the weight of facts

and maybe even
to float a little
above this difficult world.
I want to believe I am looking

into the white fire of a great mystery.
I want to believe that the imperfections are nothing -
that the light is everything - that it is more than the sum
of each flawed blossom rising and fading. And I do.
